  • Short bio

The history of Vigüela is the story of a vital surrender to a cultural legacy of a wild and very ignored beauty: the traditional music of the center of the Iberian Peninsula.

Some facts and figures:

  • Vigüela was born in El Carpio de Tajo in the mid 80s. There are currently two generations in the band.
  • The focus of the work is of artistic excellence. In the international market, ethnographic or identity value is not enough to sustain a product, if it does not have an intrinsic artistic value. And, at the same time, our music transmits the differential elements of this artistic corpus, without mannerism.
  • We have performed at international festivals such as WOMAD UK (UK), Førdefestivalen (Norway), Urkult (Sweden), Folk Holidays (Czech Republic), EtnoKrakow (Poland), Okarina (Slovenia), Sori Festival (South Korea) and countless national programmes.
  • We have 8 albums. The last two have been released by the British label ARC, which has 42 years of experience dedicated to world music. In January 2022 the ninth will be released, also by ARC Music, and features the collaboration of Jorge Pardo, the historic flamenco and jazz flautist and saxophonist.
  • We can play completely unamplified if space permits. The technical rider adapts to your event. We will give you the best option for your space and your audience expectations. 
  • The band has performed live concerts online, including real-time audience interaction and even collaboration with other artists in 8 different countries, live.
  • We have released a 19-minute documentary film that has been subtitled in English, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, Polish and French. Click here to watch it. It has been possible thanks to the support of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha and IPEX.

  • Workshops

Vigüela offers also a workshop of dance on traditional styles and other topics related to the music and the instruments. The workshop will be adapted for the needs of the participants and the organizer and can be designed for kids or for adults. Learn more, here.
